With fashion magazines and models revering the long, beautiful leg, what is a woman with short legs to do? Make them look longer. Follow these simple dos and don’ts and be happily surprised at the result.
Short Leg Dos:
- Choose pants that are straight legged or boot cut.
- Wear pointed shoes-they continue to draw the eye down, lengthening the look of your leg.
- Choose the same color for pant, sock, and shoe—again lengthening the look by avoiding color breaks; the same for skirts and dresses.
- Skirts? Wear them just kissing the knee or a little shorter.
- Look for high-waisted dresses or dresses with no defined waistline. Without a break at the waist, your body line will appear longer.
- When a long skirt is the look you want, wear it paired with a matching colored shirt. Wear it all the way down and don’t forget that heels are your friend.
- Stick with fabric that has a small print or design. Also look for stripes that are vertical or tiny plaids.
Short Leg Don’ts
- Never wear tapered pants.
- Avoid pant styles that “cut off” your leg such as cuffed pants, capris, or large flares.
- Don’t wear a different color hose that shows between the hem of your pants or skirt and your shoes. This creates a line that breaks the flow and makes your leg look shorter.
- Try not to wear ankle or mid calf skirts or dresses. They make a break at a point on your leg that makes it appear short. If you really love the length, wear them with boots that are the same color as the hem. Make sure the fabric is soft and flowing.
You can actually fool the eye into believing your legs are longer than they really are.
